The Highland Beach Library originated in the mid 1970s as two shelves of books in Town Hall. From there, it evolved into a full-fledged library and in February 2006, the library moved to the present site. In addition to a large collection of materials, the library offers cultural events, programs, and activities for all ages.

How do I get a library card?

Library card applications can be completed in person at the library. Photo identification and proof of current address are required. Renters must provide a copy of their lease agreement.

Library cards are free to Highland Beach property owners and those renting for more than 6 months. Those renting in Highland Beach for 3 – 6 months may purchase a temporary card for $25.00. Non-residents may purchase a card for $75.00 per year. Replacement cards cost $5.00. Only cash or check accepted.

Children ages 16 and younger who reside in Florida may have a free library card. Adult material may not be checked out using these cards.

How many items can I take out?

* New books: 2

* Books on CD/MP3: 2
* eReaders: 1
* DVDs: 3
* Music CDs: 3
* Magazines: 5
* Children’s Books and CDs: 6 per family
* Children’s DVDs: 3 per family

How long can I keep items?

* New books: 7 or 14 days
* Books: 21 days
* Books on CD/MP3: 21 days
* eReaders: 14 days
* DVDs: 3 days
* Music CDs: 7 days
* Magazines: 7 days
* Children’s Books and CDs: 21 days
* Children’s DVDs: 7 days

What are the fines if I’m late returning items?

* Books and magazines: $.25 per day per item
* DVDs and CDs: $1.00 per day per item
* e-readers: $3.00 per day per item

Only cash or check accepted.

What if I lose or damage an item?

Materials must be returned in good condition. Patrons are responsible for the replacement cost of lost or damaged items.

Can I reserve items from home?

Patrons may reserve items from home using the online catalog search system, with their library card number.

How do I renew items?

Books may be renewed online or in person if the item is not overdue or on reserve for another patron. DVDs must be renewed at the library.

How do I request materials?

Complete a yellow reserve slip (located by the new books) and give it to the front desk. The library cannot guarantee that requested items will be purchased.

How do I download digital materials to my tablet or smartphone?

Visit the “Help” sections of the vendor sites under “Digital Resources” below to get started. If you need additional assistance, call the library at 561-278-5455 to make an appointment.

Do you have computers and WiFi?

The library has nine computer workstations for use by Highland Beach Library cardholders. Present your library card at the front desk to receive computer time.

Minors must have parental approval to use the adult computers. Children’s computers do not have internet access.

Wireless access to the internet is available to Highland Beach Library cardholders. Present your library card at the front desk to receive access.

How do I keep up-to-date with library activities?

Information about our programs and events is available on the library website, in the monthly library newsletter, on the bulletin boards inside the library and on the entrance walkway, and on Highland Beach TV Channel 99.

Small Fry Story Time - Tuesdays at 4:00 pm This program is specifically designed for ages 4 and up. Join us as we listen to a delightful story, sing a song, do a craft, and make some new friends along the way.

Craft Time - 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 4:00 pm For ages 4 and up. Join us for a story and a craft.

Baby Bookworm Story Time - Tuesdays at 10:30 am Classic and new stories for ages 1-3.

Bookworm Story Time - Saturdays at 10:00 am Classic and new stories for ages 1-5.
