Sanitary Sewer Lining Project

Dear Residents,

As we prepare to kick off our Sanitary Sewer Lining Project, an important initiative to modernize our aging infrastructure, we would like to share information on the upcoming camera inspection phase of the project and provide some background on the overall effort and what to expect.

  • Start Date: Sunday, October 12
  • Work trucks will be visible along side streets as crews begin conducting live video inspections (CCTV) of the Town’s sanitary sewer system.
  • This preliminary work is designed to evaluate the internal condition of the pipes and identify any areas needing repair before the new lining is installed.
  • There will be no impact to sewer services; however, residents are encouraged to limit water usage where possible to allow for faster progress.
  • The camera inspection portion of the project is expected to last less than one week.

About the Sanitary Sewer Lining Project:

The Sanitary Sewer Lining Project was approved by residents during the 2024 Municipal General Election and represents one of the Town’s most significant capital improvements. Full construction is scheduled to begin later this fall, with work anticipated to take approximately 60 days.

The project utilizes trenchless technology, a modern process that allows underground repairs with minimal disruption to streets and landscaping. During the lining process, a resin-saturated, flexible liner—a durable, plastic-like material—is inserted into the existing sewer pipes and then cured in place. The result is a new “pipe within a pipe” that restores structural integrity, prevents leaks, and extends the life of the system by up to 50 years.

Work will begin on side streets while FDOT completes the final stages of its SR-A1A Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation Project. Once those areas are complete, the Town’s stretch of SR-A1A will be re-lined, with bypass pumping and a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plan implemented to minimize disruptions.

Communication and Updates

Residents will receive regular updates throughout the process and informational door hangers with details about temporary water usage limitations or specific project activity in their area.

While short-term inconveniences may occur, this project represents a long-term investment in public health, environmental protection, and reliable utility service for our community.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the Town of Highland Beach Water Department at 561-637-2038.
