Thanksgiving Cooking SafetyTips from Highland Beach Fire Rescue
Thanksgiving is one of the busiest days of the year for fire departments across the country. As you prepare your holiday feast, Highland Beach Fire Rescue reminds all residents to cook with care and stay alert in the kitchen. Cooking Safety Tips: • Never leave the stove unattended while cooking. • Keep flammable items—like towels and oven mitts—away from the stovetop. • Turn pot handles inward to prevent spills and burns. • Keep a lid nearby to smother small grease fires—never use water. • If deep-frying a turkey, do it outside, on a flat surface, away from buildings or trees. • Never submerge a frozen or partially thawed turkey into hot oil—it can cause the oil to splatter or explode, leading to severe burns and fires. A few extra precautions can make a difference in ensuring a happy and safe holiday for all. From all of us at Highland Beach Fire Rescue, we wish you a safe, warm, and enjoyable Thanksgiving!
