Building Department

The Building Department ensures that all new buildings and renovations meet applicable building codes as well as local ordinances. Plans are checked by experts in different fields before any building permit is issued. Construction sites are inspected regularly during the building process, and a thorough inspection is made before a Certificate of Occupancy is granted. In the wake of COVID-19, public access into the Building Department is prohibited.
All new submittals & revisions MUST be submitted online using the below link to the Building Department Online Portal.
Permit pick ups are by appointment ONLY for older permits already started under the old system.

**Please be advised that the Town of Highland Beach Building Department will be changing software companies starting October 7th at 1:59pm and will not be up and running with the new software until Tuesday, October 13th.  This has been scheduled to include Columbus Day, Monday, October 12th to minimize the amount of down time since we would be closed anyway for the holiday. 

What does this mean to you?

  1. There will be no inspections scheduled for October 8th, 9th and 12th.  Please adjust your construction schedule to accommodate these down days.
  2. The online system will be shut down and neither you nor we will have access to any permit or inspection information until Tuesday.
  3. You will have to register for a new account with the new system (URL will be provided) on October 13th.
  4. You will receive a new PIN number in your email from the new system which will allow you to tie into your existing permits.
  5. The Building Department will remain closed during the migration and will be unable to help you with your application.
  6. You can schedule inspections for October 13th and on, in advance and those will transfer to the new system once requested and scheduled.

We strongly advise you to modify your construction schedule to accommodate the 2 regular business days we will be down.  Any true emergencies will still require a permit application the next day or day we open on the 13th.  Code Enforcement will be patrolling and verifying compliance with the permit process.  Electrical emergencies that involve FPL inspection requirements will still be handled but must follow with a permit application.


2020 Construction Hours

Per the Town's Code of Ordinances Section 12-6, Hours of construction, construction is prohibited between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, which includes any full day when the administrative offices of the Town are closed.

Christmas Eve - Thursday, December 24
Christmas Day - Friday, December 25

*Please note that construction is allowed the day after Thanksgiving*
