Hydrant Replacement Project

Update as of 2/13/2018

Man Con, Inc., the contractor working on the Hydrant Replacement Project remains ahead of schedule.  On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, they plan on installing new hydrants at the following  locations:  3012 and 2912 South Ocean Boulevard.  The Town appreciate the cooperation the public has provided in adhering to the caution signs and safety measures during this project. This has helped the contractor perform the required work in a timely fashion.

Update as of 2/12/2018

The hydrant replacement project is moving along quite well.

The Town had to deviate a bit from the original schedule because there was a problem with a sewer manhole (that we had Man Con address).  They also had to change out the hydrant in front of Town Hall because it was the wrong barrel length (The new one is yellow, but will be painted silver to conform with all of the other Town-owned hydrants at the end of the project).

This afternoon (2/12), the company will work on the hydrant at 3210 SOB near Villa Costa, so they still remain approximately two days ahead of the original schedule.

In FY 17, three non-functional fire hydrants along the west side of SR A1A were replaced as part of the water main replacement project.  This year the Commission approved funding for the replacement of the remaining eleven fire hydrant assemblies along the west side of SR A1A as they are obsolete and have exceeded their useful service life.

Last month, Man Con, Inc., the contractor who performed the side street water main replacement project, was awarded a contract by the Town Commission to supply and install the above-referenced hydrant assemblies.  Furthermore, Mathews Consulting, the firm who designed the improvements has been retained to perform construction management services for the duration of this project.

The Hydrant Replacement Project is due to commence on February 6, 2018 and expected to conclude in March barring any delays caused by unforeseen circumstances.  A tentative schedule, including work locations, has been provided herein.

While the contractor will endeavor to minimize any disruptions to pedestrian, bicycle and traffic flow, it will be necessary to periodically close off limited sections of the walk path in order to replace these fire hydrant assemblies.  The Town is asking for the cooperation from our walk path users to observe and obey signs, barricades, cones and other control devices that may deployed in these areas in the interest of public safety.  While there may be some temporary and hopefully minor inconveniences, it is all for the long-term good of the community as the new hydrants will enhance fire suppression capabilities, improve the water main distribution system flushing program, and is representative of the Commission’s Commitment to infrastructure re-investment.

The Contractor (Man Con, Inc.) intends to begin on the South end of Town on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 and will progress northward along SR A1A until the project (the replacement of 11 hydrants) is complete.  The tentative work schedule is as follows:
